There are 3 types of journeyman licenses in Wisconsin, and each has its own requirements:

Vocational School

- Residential Journeyman Electrician – 3,000 hours of experience over a period of 3 years
- Journeyman Electrician – 8,000 hours of experience over a period of 4 years
Apprenticeship Program
These structured 3 to 5-year programs cover both practical training and theory subjects such as:
- Cable tray installation
- Pulling wire and cable
- Installing and wiring service switch gear, motor control centers and power, lighting, and control panels
- Reading blueprints and schematics
- Lighting fixture installation
- Mounting and wiring transformers
The union programs are managed by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and called Joint Apprenticeship & Training Committees (JATC).
To attend a JATC program, you must:
- Be 18 years old
- Have a high-school diploma/GED
- Have a driver's license
- A year of high school algebra
- A fee of $20

- Pay a $100 credential fee
The test needs a 70% passing score, is open-book and the topics cover:

This license must be renewed once at 4 years and costs $100 and before renewal, you need to take 24 extra classes of education.
